Go For Launch!

WOW Scott Andrews, Stan Jirman and Philip Scott Andrews this is just amazing!! Please check this out and read the article you will be happy to have done it! Thank you guys for taking this hard task in documenting this event it is really impressive! Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did, or I just totally showed my super geeky side….

Last year while training for his STS-131 space shuttle mission, astronaut Alan Poindexter was looking for a different way to document Discovery’s next-to-last flight, something that had never been done. So he turned to a couple of friends—Scott Andrews, a photographer and technical advisor to Canon who has shot every shuttle launch but two, and Stan Jirman, a software engineer for Apple. They came up with a winning suggestion: What about a time-lapse video that captured the whole process of getting a shuttle ready for launch?

The result, produced in collaboration with Andrews’ son Philip (a photojournalist himself), is a stunning, one-of-a-kind, four-minute chronicle of Discovery’s trip from the Orbiter Processing Facility to the pad, beginning with the “rollover” to the Vehicle Assembly Building on February 22 and ending with the STS-131 launch on April 5.

With the help of everyone from shuttle technicians to crane operators to escorts (86-year-old NASA retiree Charlie Parker was particularly valuable in squiring Andrews’ team around) the photographers positioned multiple cameras—up to nine at any one time—inside the cavernous assembly building to click away while the orbiter, fuel tank, and twin solid rocket boosters were “stacked” for launch.

Wimmera CMA by Dave Jones

Check out this great videos done by Dave Jones to promote awareness of the Wimmera River. Great job done in the 3 spots and best of all is how art supports the eco system, specially in this times were our earth needs all of our attention and support. Congratulations Dave wonderful commercials!

The first in a series of 3 ads commissioned by the Wimmera Catchment Management Authority to promote awareness of the Wimmera River. There hasn’t been a heap of rain up here of late and the river that used to be quite a focal point for the population has become more of a series of salty ponds. Last year was the first time it technically flowed in a decade. So the ads were about getting people to remember what it was and not to give up on it just because its going through a bit of a rough patch.

I think this might be my favorite of the 3…just because of the variety of characters. All of the narration was recorded in a bunch of interviews mostly at the agricultural field day. Jacqui Schultz did an excellent job of hunting down interesting people and extracting pearls of wisdom from them.
Mary French made most of the excellent models out of paper mache which is not the worlds easiest substance to animate.

Anthony Pelchen is a local artist who lives out by the river. Again…captured philosophising about the river here by Jac.
I did the stop-motion component of this in one horrific 30 hour stint as I had to leave immediately after that for a few days. I literally got up one morning worked all day, all night, finished the shot walked out, hopped in the car and drove off (was driven rather)for a few days not knowing if the whole thing was a complete disaster that would all need to be re-shot.
